Thayer Morgan smiles easily. For many reasons. It’s the work he does, the place he lives, the people he knows, the hobbies he keeps. That ready smile, colorful wit and easy-going nature are attributes those who know him treasure—friends, family, professional colleagues and acquaintances alike.
Growing up in Carlisle, he is a New Englander at heart, and he finds much to love and appreciate about Greater Boston. Spending time with his family at little out of the way places. Meeting neighbors in yards they carefully tend. Dining in Waltham and Cambridge. Visiting friends in Newton. Going to the theater in Boston. Volunteering for civic organizations throughout the region.
The communities of the region are diverse, each offering a different folklore and history. Still, the cities and towns have a great deal in common, linked both by rich traditions and contemporary influences. These characteristics are part of what sets New England apart, with a culture all its own. The lifestyle of New England and the beauty of its landscape, from the mountains of the northern states to the shores of the southern states, are part of what drew Thayer back.
Back from a Business Venture to Start Another
After graduating from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, the photographer was recruited to work in St. Louis, where he worked for a company supervising photographers-in-training and developing marketing programs for banks and churches, promoting them in neighborhoods and cities throughout the country.
But after six years in St. Louis, he returned to Boston as a freelance commercial photographer and, in the early 1980s, started his own business, Thayer Productions. He grew the firm into a multi-faceted organization, producing collateral art, print brokering and serving as a project manager.
His business evolved into a strategic marketing venture, partnering with one competitor and acquiring another. Working with a variety of clients—such as The Robb Report, Inc. Magazine and Northeastern University—added a dimension to Thayer’s appreciation for Greater Boston: the forward-thinking nature of its business and industry and non-profit institutions.
A Sense of Community
Years ago, Thayer made a commitment to dedicate a part of his time to serving the community that enriches his life. That decision was the foundation of his volunteer efforts and support for a variety of non-profit organizations in Greater Boston.
He finds the work of others so inspiring that being involved is itself rewarding. But with so many ways to contribute, it is hard to select only a few. But he is drawn to City Year and CMM, an interfaith organization working on social justice in greater Boston.
Thayer has worked on food drives for Boston City Hospital’s “Grow Clinic” program, the Warwick House, Bristol Lodge and local town pantries. And he serves meals at the Salvation Army in Framingham. In his view, contributing personal time and resources in this way is important. Reaching out to others in need is one of those values held dear in New England.
Success in Real Estate: The Winning Edge
Thayer bought his home in Watertown a few years ago. He admired the professionalism demonstrated by the Realtor helping him to find a place to call home. After he moved into the Watertown house he found with the Realtor’s help, Thayer invited him to the house blessing.
Not long after the occasion, he invited Thayer to pursue a career in real estate—knowing the qualities he observed were key ingredients for success: commitment, enthusiasm and empathy. With a proven track record in business, and a keen sense of community, the decision came naturally.
For Thayer, he knows how important his home is to him, and the opportunity to help people realize their dreams and goals resonated. That desire is evident, and it’s why so many people trust Thayer with their homes. And with him, people feel right at home.
